CELLAR DOOR
The Coombe Farm wine brand was established in 2002, the Farm cellar door was opened in 2007 and it has grown to become one of the most popular in the Valley.

The cellar door is located at Coombe - The Melba Estate, 673-675 Maroondah Highway, Coldstream.

It is open every day from 10am – 5pm, except major public holidays.

Buses are welcome but only by prior arrangement.


THE VINEYARD
The Coombe Farm vineyards were established on the estate in 1998, when 60 hectares of vines were planted on both sides of the Maroondah Highway.

The vision was ‘to be the best and most preferred supplier of premium Yarra Valley wine-grapes and widely recognised as an industry leader in best practice viticulture, varietal selection and innovation.’

Varieties planted include the traditional Yarra Valley varieties – clones of Chardonnay (Mendoza, P58, 76, 96 and 277), Pinot Noir (MV6, 777, 114 and 115), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot; as well as the more unusual Pinot Gris, Arneis and Viognier.

The hillside site on the slopes of Mt Mary is one of the warmest in the Yarra Valley and is home to all our Pinot Noir and now several clones of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec that have been planted over the last few years.

Coombe Farm consistently supplies premium and ultra-premium wine grapes to many of Australia’s leading and most innovative wine producers, increasingly selecting the best for our own boutique wine range.

The vineyards of Coombe Farm have been under the management and supervision of Viticulturalist & Vineyard Manager Xavier Mende since their inception


THE WINES
The wines of Coombe Farm are made in very small quantities and are available only in selected restaurants, fine wine retailers and from our cellar doors and online store.

Coombe Farm wines are classically varietal and regionally expressive. They are elegantly fresh, deliciously tasty, ‘morish’ and great value. They are handcrafted in very small volumes, entirely from estate grown fruit that has been chosen as the best the vineyard has to offer.

The first wine made under the Coombe Farm label was a Pinot Noir in 2002. Since then the range has developed into a small yet comprehensive display of both the traditional and alternative varieties that Coombe Farm and the Yarra Valley do best.


Our core Coombe Farm range includes the varieties we believe the Yarra Valley does best. The wines are handpicked and handcrafted and with the finest oak selected for each variety.

Our Tribute wines, named to honour the legacy of our forefathers are made only in the best vintages and only from the best selected barrels and batches.

Our wines are made by our winemaker and General Manager, Nicole Esdaile.

Xavier has overseen and tended the vineyards of Coombe Farm since they were planted in 1998 and it has been said that he ‘knows almost all his vines by name’.

Xavier has gained a wealth of experience working in wineries and vineyards all over Australia and has a great understanding of the nuances of both the Coombe Farm site and the Yarra Valley.

He is highly regarded by all the winemakers with whom he deals and is an integral part of Coombe Farm viticultural and winemaking operations.
